Erectile Dysfunction

Overview:

Erectile dysfunction is a sex problem that is associated with men. The inability to achieve and maintain an erection suitable for sexual activity is called erectile dysfunction, or ED. About one out of every ten adult male is likely to have ED.

Symptoms:

Erectile dysfunction may include the following symptoms:

  • Problems related to erection  
  • Depression
  • Sexual desire is reduced

Causes of Erectile dysfunction:

Erectile dysfunction includes both physical and psychological causes. It is a complicated issue caused by problems in your brain, hormones, muscles, and blood vessels.

Risk factors:

Several risk factors can aggravate erectile dysfunction. Some of those are as follows.

  • Obesity
  • Smoking and alcohol consumption
  • Health issues such as Peyronie’s disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart diseases

Various medical treatments are used in prostate surgery or radiotherapy for colon cancer.

  • Injury causes the damage to the sexual part
  • Use of medication like antidepressants
  • Lack of proper exercise
  • Poor diet
  • Poor mental health

Diagnosis of Erectile dysfunction:

First of all, your health care doctor will take your medical history and perform a complete physical examination. Then the doctor will prescribe some of the following tests for further investigation.

  • Complete blood count
  • Urine tests
  • Liver and kidney function tests
  • Hormonal tests
  • Ultrasound
  • Nocturnal penile tumescence (NPT) test
  • Vasoactive injection test

Treatment:

Erectile dysfunction treatment includes both medication and sex therapy. Medicine has drugs like avanafil, sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil, Alprostadil, etc. There are other ways to treat this disease, including vacuum pump devices, penile injections, intraurethral therapy, and penile implantation through surgery.
